How to cope with daily activities of life

I can understand that Timothy - it has certainly been nice and cool inside this afternoon - we went for walk in the evening though.

Keep smiling. Take care, Patsy x

I too watch alot of TV. Luckily I have Sky +. So I record the programmes I like and watch them instead of some of the mind numbing ones viewing nowadays…I’m sure you know the ones. I try not to watch it in the day so I stay active, but once 5 o’clock comes, it’s dinner, walk the dog, TV and laptop booted up. I rarely go out in the evenings. lol, not like my younger days when my Mum couldn’t keep me in!
I like to play Chess too. Lucky devil getting your meals provided for you. I’m the cook and bottle washer here. It may all sound boring to you. But it sounds good to me in your circumstances. Could well be any of us one day. You are lucky to be married and have your wife around. I miss being married, the companionship, friendship. That is something you have I can only wish for. Just me here with the dog and my very large boss eyed cat that can just make it through the cat flap…lol.
Well must update my facebook page and see how everyone is doing on there. Are you on there?
Talk soon Take care. Jenny

Do you have an electric wheelchair? I use electric outdoors to walk my dog everyday.

My Mac has special software on and an oversized joystick which I can operate using hands, forearms, feet or chin. Word prediction and abbreviations for pre-stored sentences make it alot easier to type by whatever means possible.

Today I typed this using my feet with on-screen keyboard as my hands and lower arms are really painful today. It is alot slower and takes a bit of practice but as my main problem with my legs is keeping balance whilst standing and trying to shift weight to take steps I found I can use my feet to operate oversized trackball/joystick and switches as long as my weight is supported.

Due to the type of joystick i have I can also fine tune the speed and direction of the cursor and make the on-screen keyboards with bigger buttons, which either click automatically or wont click until i have cursor properly lined up.

It means I can still stay in touch with the world even on a bad day when my hands are too painful to type with.

It’s about finding what works for you.

If you like Chess you can play it on Facebook you know? I know the basics but haven’t played for years. I like Lexulous (which is like scrabble).

Hi Kati. Yes I do have a electric wheelchair and also a manual one. Your electric wheels sound alot different than minds

Welcome Timothy, We are here for you and understand how you are feeling. I do not cry as much now days, my primary doctor told me the sooner I accept my SCA the better off I would be, so most days I am okay. I am learning to take it one day at a time and try to be as independent as I can, it hard but I struggle to do the best as I can. Hang in there and thank God for the support you do have.

Hello, sometimes I cope with everyday activities very well and sometimes I become overwhelmed with depression. I try not to allow this to happen mainly because it affects the family adversely. Perhaps it's not always the most effective way to cope but you must try not to give in to the way our horrible, changing situation.

Dear Timothy, Ataxia is extremely frustrating and challenging! I have "pity party" moments, but they're short lived, as I try to count my blessings! It's great to have this site to talk with other's that understand and can be supportive of our ataxia! We are NOT alone in this journey..., ;o)
