Clay Shooting Event 'Aims' For Disease's Cure

A fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 13, at Tampa Bay Sporting Clays in Land O' Lakes that will benefit the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance

Friedreich’s ataxia is a progressive neuromuscular disease, and organizers of a fundraiser Saturday are aiming for a cure, so to speak.

The Hunters and Liars Club is hosting a clay shooting event April 13 at Tampa Bay Sporting Clays in Land O’ Lakes. Money raised will benefit the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance.

“The event will feature an eight-station shooting course, a five-stand warm-up, chair massages, cooking and wine seminars for non-shooters, raffles, live entertainment and dinner catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill,” according to a news release.

According to FARA, about one in 50,000 people in the U.S. have Friedreich's ataxia, for which there is no known cure.

The event will run from 2 to 10 p.m. Here are the prices:

  • Individual non-shooter: $50 (includes cooking class and dinner)
  • Individual shooter: $150 shoot and dinner (shells included)
  • Sponsor: $1,500 (8 shooters and 2 non-shooters; logo on event signage)
