Fatigue

Well, I'll join the others who confess to fatigue. Here is an idea that is working for me: Don't try so hard. I use to be a strong exercize addict. More and better for me! Well that was then. I now do several short sessions just to get going. I stop just when I feel that I am ready to turn it up a notch. The result is that I finish without needing any recovery. Also, I go out right after eating. Food will stimulate insuln which will tire you. Exercizing then allows your body to use the insuln for fuel. -silky

Get your thyroid checked for goiter and low thyroid hormone in blood. Ask for a sleep study. Both of yhese things had a big impact on improving my energy. Blood thyroid levels were in normal range but thyroid medicine helped tremendously anyway.

I SLEEP UNTIL 2PM ON WEEKENDS - I HAVE GOOD DAYS AND THE DIZZINESS/UNBALANCE COMES IN THE AM AND PM

Yes, fatigue and ataxia go hand in hand!!! ;o)

Hi, as everybody I do get fatigue. Have days when I feel energetic, but have days when I am tired whatever I do. Then I just listen to my body and can spend all day, watching tv or just stay in bed. Sometimes I feel exosted for 2-3 days. I just rest because i dont feel better when I am pushing myself. I do exercises every day, stil do the cleaning at home on my own, but when. dont feel like it,I rest.Often have a power nap for an hour or two(just cant help it).

I too have fatigue that is so bad it has been diagnosed as ME but seeing the Ataxia Specialist Dr Giunti and her nurse, they tell me that fatigue is the way it is, and the best thing is to do exercise then rest. Eat well three times a day, with a snack in between if you need it but be sensible as snacking can put on unwanted weight. A carrot, an apple, even a banana. A few unsalted nuts. But exercise in small doses is the key to be able to achieve more. I am already at the stage of wanting to get on an exercise bike and try for just a few minutes, or try a treadmill and walk further then 100 yards. it will help in the long run I am told. And we all want to stay as fit as we can for as long as we can.

To you all who have fatigue, don't feel you are giving in, if you stay in bed or go to bed. You need that rest too. I am often in bed by 6pm as I can't go through a whole day without falling by the wayside and we eat at 5.30 and I go to bed, as I say around 6pm. You are not alone.

I am glad I am not the only one. Back in bed already!!

I am going to rehab 3days a week 3 hours a day!! Very tiring but I can already see results

Yes, ready for bed by 9 or 10. My husband can't understand why I don't want to go out at night, but I just don't feel like it.

He is having a hard time understanding what is going on with me. He thinks some of it is in my head.

Hello Sandra

Just wanting to react about the part your husband thinks it's something between the ears. Well, tell him actually it is: the cerebellum IS right there IN your head:):) And don't force yourself to go out in the evenings when you're not up to it. It's pretty exhausting, especially when there's a lot of company there like say parties/birthdays. At least for me it is. And as far as hubs are concerned, well mine can get kinda grumpy at times too, having to do lots of things which I can't anymore. But let's not forget this ataxia thing is hard on the caregivers as well. Gradually over the years being thrown into the roll of waiter, laundry lady, grocery shopper, cook and so on. So hang on in there you BOTH.

Hugs from Holland, Elle.
