What were your earliest symptoms?

Hi Fahareen!

Wearing heels is a dim and distant memory for me too! I used to love buying

shoes, I could never have enough. Trying to get pretty clumpy supportive

shoes drives me mad. You can get them but usually they're very expensive.

But, I managed to get a pair of boots recently at TKMaxx which were a bargain!

As far as alcohol goes, wine actually goes straight to my legs, an unpleasant

sensation. Oddly, I can drink other alcoholic drinks without this happening! xB

Has anyone noticed coughing as a side effect or sign of ataxia?. I have had a cough of very long duration (years!) for no apparent reason. My GP prescribes nasal sprays, Claratin, and omeprezale in an effort to hit the usual reasons for cough. My lungs are clear. I thought I read something recently that mentioned increased coughing in diagnosed ataxia patients.

In addition, I am beginning to notice some hard swallowing, and times when I have to think about swallowing to do it. Will I start choking? Any comments about swallowing?.

All of us probably have a cough Umigal, mostly I think it's caused by swallowing food/liquid

and minute fragments ending up going down the wrong tube, causing irritation. I often do

this, and can even choke on saliva at times.

You can get specialist advice regarding eating and swallowing. If there's a real problem,

thickeners can be added to liquid. xB

Everything said by Beryl Park is (unfortunately) accurate. It's mild in my case but there, especially w liquids.
