Henry,
I didn’t say it was easy. I hold on to furniture and walls to get there and it’s only about 10 feet from my bed. I’ve also used a walker at times. It’s a challenge but I still feel that I have to try and I’ll never give up!
Hi Chas🙂
Apologies
I was fiddling with the icons beneath your post…and the post was deleted
I don’t know how to move posts from one place to another…I just thought one of the icons might help
I suggest contacting Mod Support
But…you could try copying a post…and then paste it wherever you want to move it to.
I just tried this myself…and it works
Contacted Merl and maybe she has the direct answer.

Today is not one of my good days. I’m a little more wobbly today.
I’ve come down with flu…let’s hope it passes before I pass it on
Yes totally!! My bad days have been going on for 4 months dealing with this thyroid issue they haven’t got my medication right yet and I’m so dizzy all the time and my cramps have been paralyzing making me fall. You know being dizzy with ataxia symptoms is the worst scenario! So I’m looking forward to some good days! I hope yours get better for you!
I’m struggling with getting a cane. I’m trying to not use one but I may need one it’s getting hard to walk without help sometimes. I intentionally park by a cart holder so I can walk with one into a store.
I wondered too before making a decision…I put it off as long as possible.
But…it’s far better to err on the side of caution. Too many mishaps misjudging depths of kerbs settled the decision for me.
One day I walked in my garden without the walking stick, didn’t notice a hazard …and fractured my ankle.
I’m still managing indoors without it but…I can tell it won’t be for much longer.
I hope your Thyroid med is sorted soon.
I’ve been experiencing dry eyes and dry mouth…and had a test for Vit A deficiency.
Saw this online. Also, the news has said that some dry eye meds are being associated with problems.
What worsens dry eyes?
Common causes of decreased tear production include: Aging. Certain medical conditions including Sjogren’s syndrome, allergic eye disease, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, graft vs. host disease, sarcoidosis, thyroid disorders or vitamin A deficiency.
I have an appointment next week with ‘head of dept’ at my local eye clinic…and I can’t imagine why. I was expecting to be referred to an Iritis Specialist, with a view to potential Cataract Surgery.
I was recently prescribed a Steroid, Hypoallergenic Eyedrops and Ointment for dry eyes. All was ok after the Steroid…but the drops caused intense irritation and had to be stopped.
I had the Vit A test because I also have a dry mouth…and I wondered if the 2 were connected.
I really need help with ‘cloudiness’ in one eye…it’s very disorientating, and affects concentration.
It’s possible it could be helped by Cataract Surgery…but there are complications.
Don’t know what it really means. Possibly just looking for business. Saw on TV today that Tepezza [sp?] for eye condition can cause hearing loss or worse. FYI, lawyer business.
I’ve been approved for NHS Cataract Surgery.
Obviously this could be done privately but…due to my history of eye problems I think it’s advisable to continue with the NHS.
But…the NHS only offer one type of replacement lens…distance. I don’t use reading glasses at the moment but…I will need them after the surgery😕
Me too. I wear reading glasses. Dont need vision glasses but my eyesight is getting worse, so… Have my yearly eye appointment this coming October. Good luck!
That’s exciting that you got approved. You will likely find yourself needing two different levels of readers. One for up close, and one for computer use. Personally I had my lenses replaced with single vision lenses, one for distance and one for relatively near. But I’m not sure that I would make the same decision in your situation. I DID try it out ahead of time. The biggest thing that I realized after the first eye was done was just how real the complete lack of accomodation was. I couldn’t see anything clearly that was closer than the end of my outstretched hand, and even that was a bit close. It’s been over three years now and I’ve been very happy with my decision to get it done then.

Thank you …that’s interesting.
I am apprehensive when it comes to needing reading glasses…because at the moment I don’t…and the prospect of needing 2 pairs of readers
Someone told me…they have a distance lens in one eye, and a reading lens in the other…my Vestibular problems are too bad to cope with that.
My vision at the moment is still fairly good, I only have a weak prescription, and lenses have a tint plus anti glare coating
But despite the glasses, ‘Light’ still distorts my vision, blurring it beyond 5ft…so it would make a big difference to me if this was improved.
You wrote something that “rings” with me. Bright light affects your eyesight. I thought it was me only. My eyes are also affected by bright light. I hate it when the eye doc shines the light into my eyes to check the nerves. Another wonderful Ataxia thing!!
I am in the same situation as you - park near shopping carts. I’m almost 53 yrs old with th familial SCA2; what’re your specifics.
I haven’t been diagnosed yet but we have hereditary cerebellum ataxia in my family grandma, mom and sisters have it so I know the symptoms unfortunately.
I do have a appointment next month though. I am 44 so I’m just getting into full symptoms. Thank God my thyroid medication has leveled out, it was making everything heightened and now I can go back to the gym.
