I am going to the Abilities Expo next week and am considering a lightweight manual chair. My only hesitation is that with the Ataxia, I am not that good with pushing myself in a manual chair. (At least so far) I’m hoping that at the expo I can learn. Please let me know your thoughts.
Hi there, Bob. Sorry, I haven’t understood your question. Are you getting a lightweight wheelchair to visit the expo, or are you going to the expo to shop for a chair?
My comment would be that if you are having problems with propelling yourself, you might be better off with a small, lightweight scooter. Mine has taken me so many places that would otherwise be out of range for me.
But if I’ve got your question wrong, please set me straight!

Sorry I wasn’t clear, I have a scooter and I have a power chair. I am wanting to see if they have a manual chair that is lightweight and works for me. I have used some of them at stores but I have not had a lot of luck with them. I am hoping to find both a chair and some guidance using it. I have never been to an expo so I don’t know what to expect. I didn’t know if Ataxia was part of not being able to propel myself. Also, I wanted any advice on a chair.
I have an electric wheelchair and are real comfortable with it. It is a Jazzy. I tried with a wheelchair that you pushed and ran into every wall there was. The only thing I don’t think the Jazzy folds up. You might be able to find one that does.
I have an EZ lite for travel` it weighs aprox 50 lbs and folds up, had it for a number of years with no problems.
