Hubby & I weren’t prepared financially for any disability. My handicap has caught us completely off guard. My retirement funds arealmost gone and I don’t know how I’ll pay for personal care. I probably don’t qualify for Medicaid. I’m praying for clear thinking and guidance going forward. Thank you.
Once you have been on disability for 22 months you are eligible for Medicare.
Sorry you’re going through this Geri. Have Faith and trust God! He’s gotten you this far, and as overwhelming and stressful as it is financially God’s still here and will leads us through to victory. Keep praying, He will lead you!
I’m already on Medicare for my disability and no, it doesn’t cover non medical personal care" thank you.
No apology needed. I do pray all the time and just felt like venting. I appreciate your support.
My prayers added for your circumstance. One day at a time our LORD will supply all our needs as they arise. HE is our very present HELP in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Geri,
There may be social workers around who could connect you up with programs that provide some personal care. Some ideas for contacting such a person is through your doctor, the local hospital, your physical therapy center, your local elder care organization, or even the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimrpers Association, even though you don’t t have that and may not be old enough to qualify for elder care stuff. You might also find a social worker via a community center, your health department, or the salvation .Army. Depending on programs available where you live, you may find something.
Beset of luck.
Thank you, everyone for prayers and suggestions. My home care agency is also working with me on this. God always finds a way.
what is non medical personal care? Couldn’t personal care be referred by your doctor making it medical necessary? Sorry for the ignorance…
Hi mibadge (Ron) here) I’m not here to preach religion but I personally could not get through this without the help of a “HIGHER POWER” and a very understanding wife,as well as the support of wonderful people like you.I guess what I’m trying to say is,whatever works for you, don’t give up.
I had to arrange for a Nurse to give shots, plus separate Carers, for my Uncle. The Carers helped him bathe, dress and heated up meals. That was included in the basic fee. Housework was not included, nor was shopping. But these could be arranged and paid for separately. This was in the UK but I found by googling that it’s similar in the US. xB
Hi, Lin-da. That would’ve things like bathing, dressing, toileting. These are handled by a personal care aid. Medical stuff like shots and medications would be done by a nurse. I hope this helps. I’m happy to answer your question.
Geri, are you in US? Visiting Nurse Service does this -(Home health Care Aide or Home Attendant). it’s free of charge with doctor’s referral though private carers maybe better, depending.
Yes, I’m in PA. I’m looking into help thru pa211east.org. There.are many services listed on that site.
