Shaking hands

I have started occasionally shaking in my left hand. I don’t know if this is related to my ataxia or not. I have type 2 - hereditary

Hi Kay2

I get tremors or shakes in my left hand too. Not all the time occasionally. Don’t know if it is the ataxia but I believe it is. Have EA2.

When my cerebellar function was compromised, I developed an intention tremor in one hand. My assumption is that it goes with ataxia. Unfortunately, I was left handed. My OT suggested trying to write with my other hand. I practiced, but now can write very poorly with either hand. And, I do mean VERY poorly.

Tremors, and shaking, are fairly common across the Ataxias. Recently, I’ve become aware of my right hand unintentionally knocking things over :face_with_raised_eyebrow: xB

Dear Kay2,
I have ataxia due to Niemann Pick C1disease (adult on-set) and have tremors in both hands (mostly my fingers) occassionally. I believe the tremors are due to my ataxia, which I’ve had for 20+ years. I just found out why I have ataxia in 2017 (up until then it was unknown). My ataxia is due to NPC disease. My best to you…, ;o)

I have Dilantin caused Cerebellar Ataxia-I have significant tremor in my right hand (but cant not write or eat with left hand) and drop absolutely everything I carry. So frustrating! Liftware is great, for those of us with tremors that interfere with eating.

Most of my issues are on my left side SCA6

the best advice, your neurologist could offer. to stop it, I recall my grandad’s meds, but he used to have horrendous side effects (constipation) but UNLESS YOU TRY IT, YOU’LL NEVER KnOW. yOU MIGHT BE OK WITH IT…are you referring to a constant shake? my grandad had Parkinson, but shaking is with ataxia and I remember being told by my specialist, NOT DISIMILAR TREATMENT, NOT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE…YOU NEED TO SEEK ADVICE…

YOU ARE RIGHT. iT IS WEIRD, EVERYBODY HAS A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE, WHEN I STARTED WITH THE WALKING “FUNNY” I had a stroke LIKE experience, or what I thought could be one. Left hand side of my body affected, weakness, tongue drilling, arm INVISIBLE tremor more of a sensation, left side of my brain like scattered ants…weam leg…scary. If one doesn’t know what is it…Cannot get overheated…or angry, my legs go like jelly.

Ladybird, have you been prescribed any medication that has helped with symptoms  xB
