Walking

Hi Silentbob, I am actually going for scans on my bones in 2 weeks to see what condition their in, with all the stumbles and falls plus all the steriods over the years. I can ask them then about the magnesium and vitamin d. Thanks

I don't know if this will help Ataxia related Achilles tightness and pain, but when I ran competitively, I learned two fail-safe preventive exercises to strengthen your Achilles tendon.. First, before you walk, Fran, find a stair step-any will do- stand on the balls of your feet or toes-hold on to anything, if necessary, and slowly lower and hold and hang your heals down, not over-doing it at the beginning. Work up to 15 reps or whatever's tolerable. Repeat after your walk. Second, as you lie in bed every night (or any time of day) lie flat on your stomach, relax head on pillow and hang your toes over the bottom of the mattress, heals facing up still on mattress.. Then, push the mattress back and hold for a few seconds with your toes, being careful not to overdo, as above. You'll start to look forward to these streching exercises. Hope this is helpful. Ellen
Hi Ellen, I am trying out the step exercises you were on about. They are extremely painful on my calfs but when I am finished I do have relief from my tendons for a little while. I have said this to my physio and she recommends 3 times daily to see if they will lossen more and she will continue with laser treatment as well for now, so I will keep trying them for 2 or 3 weeks and hope my calfs don't explode in the meantime. (ha ha) Thanks Fran

maybe its tendonitis. i would go see a neurologist that knows ataxia.

I just found this article that I wanted to share http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/ankle-achilles-shi...
