Objects that can help live with ataxia

Hi everyone.

First I would like to apologize for my poor English, as it isn't my native language. My main goal was to come here to find ways of dealing with ataxia to help my father.

I believe that I haven't developed all of his symptoms yet. To begin with, how do you deal with problems of lack of coordination to write and type?

I downloaded a game to teach me how to type with all my fingers and have done a lot of handwriting (here in Brazil we call "fazer caligrafia", I don't think that the word handwriting translate well). Does anyone have a better solution for this?

Looking for locks that could make life easier for him, I found this model: http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/04/21/never-miss-the-key-hole/

I contacted via email a famous factory here in the country, and they are still looking into the possibility of creating a similar model. In the country of you, there is already a similar solution?

I am having a lot of trouble with my handwriting also, so the only thing I can think of to do, is just keep practicing it. It's frustrating and it hurts. As for typing, I have been blessed that I was always a good typist, and though it has slowed down quite a bit, and I have to stop and think of how to spell something, I can still type really well. I just get tired faster. Here in the US we have a software program that helps a lot of people who are beginning to learn to type, and it's by a lady named Mavis Beacon. Maybe there is something where you live, that is similar to that? Best of luck to you !

Recently my mother purchased the xbox 360. Searching on the internet I found a game that allows you to do yoga classes (Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012), unfortunately not yet be bought by a launch and still be very expensive.

The game that has helped me to regain my balance gradually is Dance Central 3.

I just saw the lock you were mentioning, that's a pretty great idea! I've never seen that before but it looks like it will definitely come in handy in the future!

I use a software program called Dragon naturally speaking, I'm composing this right now by using it you can control your whole computer by voice commands. I don't know if they have one in your language, but it's great for responding to e-mails and creating Word documents.

You might want to search adaptive medical equipment and/or durable medical goods, you can find some good catalogs that have amazing things.

Hi^^

Can you send me a link with some of this softwares?

looks like they support other languages

Windows 7 has a built in voice recognition system. I use that as well as my iPhone 4S.

I swear I found this right now. =)

You can search the web for sites that sell "weighted" pens/pencils. Also, there are other devices for writing/printing. I practice making letters daily, as I think this helps. I also use felt pens, as they give me more control (I just wish they didn't "bleed" through the paper...,ha!). Best wishes..., ;o)

I'm sorry, i couldn't translate this. Can you send me a link with this unusual pens and pencils?

my two favorite toys are: The can opener that works by itself

and my automatic door opener. You have a buzzer and it automatically opens any yale lock to open the door from the outside or inside.

Earlier this year I started practicing my writing doing exercises fine motor coordination. I searched on google for this phrase in English and I did not find much.
So I came share with you some of the images print after searching google for images of "coordenação motora fina": https://www.google.com.br/search?q=coordena%C3%A7%C3%A3o+motora+fina&hl=pt-BR&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=eejgUOTTIYO89gSD2YGIBg&ved=0CD8QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=595

Yes I will!

Google "pens and pencils for people with disabilities" and you'll find all kinds of sites, depending on what you're looking for. ;o)

Hi Ludmilla-Some things that I do daily-that might sound like a pain initially, but after about three weeks it just becomes habit/a no-brainer include:

-basic cleansing at a minimum

-eat breakfast or a smoothie
-meditating

-adaptive exercises

-read an inspiring or positive story

-listen to music

-laugh

-smile (in the mirror, preferably, as long as noone’s around)

-write, print, and type

-do something of interest

-take vitamins

-email or call someone who I haven’t contacted in awhile

It might sound like a lot, but it’s not where I’m currently at.

Hi Again -as far as objects, I once needed to use a grabber and had to add thickener to any water-thick liquid.

Dear Julie, Your daily habits are inspiring! I particularly liked your "smile ( in the mirror, preferably, as long as no one's around)...,LOL! ;o)
