Toilet seat aids

Dear friends and well wishers,

I am finding it increasingly difficult to get off my toilet seat. I have tried side railings, but they are not useful. If any of you have faced similar issues, and have suggestions, I would be delighted to try them.

Thanks,

Vasant

hi there

Do you have a kind of 'booster' toilet set? If not that may help as you don't have so far to sit own and standing up is easier. You talk about side rails. Do you mean the aid that sits around the seat, giving you somewhere to put your arms and using this helps you to get up safely.

I may not be making a lot of sense but here in the UK there are quite a few shops that specialise in aids. Perhaps you could google and find one near you?

Have you tried a raised toilet seat? It sits over you toilet and is higher.

My answer is very similar to the first two. We are all saying it’s better that it is higher. My husband actually purchased a toilet that is higher than the standard, so you can’t even see that it’s for the handicapped. I do find a grab bar attached to the side wall a great help as starting the movement from a seated position is often difficult.

Hi profvasant:-)

Well, I googled without checking your location, for some reason I thought you were in the U.S. so this is what I came up with. But, I will look further

Both Amazon and easier living.com have an easy fold toilet surround which is height adjustable and has a foot rest for stability. Standing on the foot rest stabilizes the surround whilst the user returns upright.

rehabmart.com have 10 pages of toilet aids! Including a sling, an extra wide support system and a hi-back support system.

I hope people post more tips  xB
