Hi, I'm 24 and have rarely come across young people with Ataxia. It'd be awesome if young people with Ataxia could get in touch with their experiences etc as I'm starting to feel alone! Its not just older people who have Ataxia right!? Awhile ago I heard/read in the Ataxian that they were going to start a chat service or something specifically for young people with Ataxia....don't know whats happened to thst :s

Hi Taryn, we're out there :)! I'm 26 living on my own in London working for a bank. I'm finding it pretty tough managing my life, work and condition. I would be interested in a young persons forum with ataxia. Not heard of anything presently, but will keep an ear out. Remember your not alone.

Dave.... On facebook search for a group called "FA Together" that's a young persons group for people with primarily FRDA, but not solely.

Hi there. I'm Darcy. I'm also 24. I have been frustrated that I haven't really found many younger people with ataxia to connect with. I don't discriminate with age, but I think that we "youngsters" may have a few extra challenges that those who experience a later onset may not necessarily have. Even though I think support from people of any age is great, t would also help to be able to talk to others in our own age range from time to time.
If anyone is interested, I'm a rather friendly person if you'd like to talk sometime.

Cool, you should! it was created by a British dude from Bournemouth, but there are young people on it (93) from loads of different countries. By the way, Dave, I'm a Computer Science student from Surrey... Which bank are you working for, and in which function? My flatmate has a placement with the bank of America in a CS role...

Hi Sam, I'm at Deutshe Bank in IT. Got on their grad scheme in 2006 and been there ever since (seems so long ago now!).Really challenging there and got a great team, which keep me going. It's pretty full on and I'm working with HR to help me continue working despite the progression of the condition. Good to know are willing to help me to continue.
What are your plans with your degree? I did Computer and Business Studies at Warwick. Wasn't sure what I wanted to do but did an internship in my 2nd year at the bank, found i could cope so went for the grad scheme.

hey im stacey im 22 with episodic ataxia type 2, there are young people out there i think we all feel/felt the same hun.
i no i have very lonely in the pass and still do sometimes even tho i have a very supportive family and close friends but they dont understand what we go through and understand how we feel half the time. but if u would like to add me oj here and keep in contact that be great and if u have any questions u want to ask i will be more than willing to try and answer as well as poss hun.
i start a new job tomoz really nervous bout how it will afffect me but fingers crossed as im determined for it all to work out and be positive bout my life :)

Hi everyone :) thanks for the replys, sorry I took so long in replying to you all but I don't get on here much and have been away.
Abit about me...I'm a student too in the NorthEast of England studying Business Computing, I decided to go back to education as I was sick of my customer service and sales roles :s. I have no idea what to do when I graduate (which is next year)! I drive, ride and have 2 guineas!
I don't go out much now since my condition got worse when I was 22, I didn't get diagnosed till I was 23! Its horrible as I feel robbed of the life I had :(. Theres not many people round my way or who I've found who can identify with my problems, its very frustrating but I'm glad I've finally found some ppl around my own age who know where i'm coming from!

Hi Taryn, good idea to head back to education. Case of putting yourself in a position to get opportunities. It's tough but something good might be round the corner...
Is 33 considered too old and 'past it'? I don't log on here very much any more, but you can find me on Twitter as @Taiconderoga. Try and keep active and creative. I'm currently volunteering at my local C.A.B. I've done lots of other volunteer work in the past, including gardening and working at a community radio station. There are good days and there are rotten days, but I just keep on keepin' on...

Yeah, good and bad days - so hard for others to understand. You're right though, just gotta plough on, have something in life to keep you motivated to keep going.
