Your thoughts

Nice list of can and cants. I’m sure will be greatly appreciated.

:slightly_smiling_face:There’s a lot of plusses there Issy….definitely food for thought.

I don’t have a mobility scooter myself but…I tried a ‘Tramper’ at a National Trust Property. It was amazing being able to get around without the usual Vestibular issues. It’s something to consider.

Yes Trampers are GREAT . We’ve both borrowed them fom Attingham Park near Shrewsbury. They have 3 there.

Slight change of subject.
I am managing to have a few days away in this country with a friend whilst my husband is in Respite. I decided to take out insurance incase of emergencies at home. Whilst stating I have Ataxia I half expected the system not to understand but I was wrong - It went on to ask about feeding issues, mobility etc. Didnt really expect that. Take care :hibiscus: all.

:slightly_smiling_face: Was this re house insurance… seems unduly intrusive. But…if you need personal insurance away from home, it’s reassuring to know you have cover. :slightly_smiling_face:I hope you and your friend have a lovely time xx

Hi Beryl
No it is purely for holiday - 4 nights in a Warners Hotel. Great hotels with all entertainment AND with my friend on hand I will be able to access the swimming pool there!
Many thanks, take care :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey Issy,

A word of warning with some of these insurance policies:

My issue is neurological, I have a nasty growing in my head. The wife and I travelled from Australia to the UK. With one company, the insurer said “Yes, we’ll cover you… …but we won’t cover you for anything related to your head…” Hmmmm. So, I asked “So, if I fall and break my leg you, could say I had a dizzy spell and void my cover, even if it’s unrelated?” and their response “We’ve got 1000 lawyers who would fight it.”

I decided not to take out the cover, but to have some reserve to cover myself to a least get me home. In Australia we have universal health care, so, if I could get back, I’d be covered by our health care system. Thankfully, I didn’t need it, but I had a ‘backstop’ for the ‘just-in-case’ scenario.

Please be aware and be sure to read that ‘fine print’ these companies often use. If you have questions, ask them, directly. They will be more than willing to take your money, but come a claim they can be difficult to claim on. I had some ‘fun’n’games’ with insurers on a TPD claim (Total Permanant Disability),. Calling them difficult was an understatement. I ended up having to get the lawyers involved. Just nasty (and costly).

Hi Merl🙂 In the past I’ve been blasé about travel insurance…but since my last holiday I’ve had 3 serious falls involving head injuries…these were due to ‘neurological issues’. I suspect cover may be still be available…but at a cost.

 It’s wonderful that you went ahead and really enjoyed the experience…. I’m so sorry your friend had a crisis.
:slightly_smiling_face: You’ve given a good review of the Hotel….and have nice memories to reflect on…xx

I enjoyed the break so much that I’ve booked a return visit - same time - same place with the friend who couldn’t make it last week. Don’t know whether I’m allowed to advertise my Falls Alarm watch but it really is great. Many similar devices only workin owner house and garden. The one I have works on any network almost anywhere.
Take care :hibiscus: xx

:slightly_smiling_face: I’m interested in the Fall Alarm Watch…please post info… xx

Hello Beryl
The Falls Alert Watch I have is a Your Stride Watch. I googled falls alerts and this seemed the best bet. Many other Falls Arms work from a base station and only work in the house and possibly in the garden.

This one works from any signal - it finds the strongest.
I did several test calls whilst away and all call handlers I spoke to had clear voices and were friendly.

The watch came the following day ready for use with no set up fees.
All details are on their website. The watch cost £59.99 with £19.99 a month service charge but I paid annually and got 2 months free and with free returns within 30 days.

Also if someone owns one and recommends a friend both get £20 back. It sounds as though I am doing a ‘hard sell’ ! but I really am very pleased with it
Take care :hibiscus: xx

I’m not familiar with a falls watch. What exactly does it do?

Hey Issy,

I don’t think I’d call it advertising myself. It’s assistive technology that assists you. We often post links to sites and equipment that may benefit other members. I certainly don’t see any issue.
