Muscle Vibrations?

now this may seem strange but I was at a meetiing of all Ataxians of all types and all different (adult) ages.

it was asked wether anyone has

vibration in their muscles

their was a very interesting conversation and I discovered this seems not uncommon in many cases indeed it might be a sensation that may be called by another name.

Any other help or ideas ?

like pulsing? or throbbing? Yes very interesting

from what I understand it was actual vibrations that could be felt, within the muscle and even by placing your hand on the affected aera.

I and others were intrigued and others had expericened similar symptoms

I cant differentiate between pulse and vibration

Sorry to be so vague, I am transposing from a short conversation about Ataxia occurances

Thanks

that's okay Alan - I find it interesting :)

Thanks it was a breakfast time chat at the Branch officers weekend , between some of some new people.

Yes very interesting and intriguing

interesting as I get vibrations (like small tremors) in my muscles and I have ea2 but my consultant told me it wasn't anything to do with episodic ataxia, so guess its all in my head

If you mean a tingling vibrating sensation in hands and/or feet, it may be "paresthesia".

If it's a single little muscle or group of muscles twitching rapidly and repeatedly under the skin, like a rippling effect or tremor, it's called "fasciculation", or if in an eyelid or around the face, it's called "myokymia".

Abs :)

Video of one guy's fasciculation in his calf:

There are many causes of paresthesia, fasciculation and myokymia, and yes, any of them can occur in various types of Ataxia and related conditions. I get all three. Lucky old me, eh? ;-)

Hi Abby,

I get a weird sensation on my face. Not unlike numbness wearing off after a visit to the dentist!

Just been to Abberton Reservoir visitors centre and tried using binoculars .. didnt realise how bad my tremor is until I tried this.

I can 'feel' my tremor inside me but didnt think it was visible until my husband mentioned it today.

I know just what you mean re binoculars! That's when I realised how bad my tremor was,

when I'm holding a newspaper it flaps as well, maddening!
